Position:

Staff Attorney to the Standing Chapter 13 trustee for Northern District of Indiana, Hammond Division

Full time attorney position to start May 12, 2025 or shortly thereafter.

Job Description and minimum qualifications:

Paul R Chael, the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee for the Northern District of Indiana, Hammond Division Bankruptcy courts is seeking applications from qualified individuals for employment as a staff attorney. The staff attorney would be part of a team to assist and represent the Trustee in complying with all provisions of the United States Bankruptcy Code and Rules as well as the requirements of the US Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern District of Indiana and the Office of the United States Trustee. Included duties would be: Review of Bankruptcy Schedules and Statements, and Chapter 13 Plans filed by debtors, review and drafting of pleadings, including motions, objections, briefs and other pleadings filed in bankruptcy court proceedings, conduct of section 341 meetings of creditors, appearance in wide variety of bankruptcy court proceedings, including confirmation hearings, Occasional appellate work may be included. Additional duties would be assigned as needed to help the Trustee implement legal policies and procedures. Some travel is required for periodic training purposes and court appearances in the Northern District.

Minimum requirements:

Member in good standing of the bar, admission to the U $ District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, (or qualification for such), Minimum of 5 years’ legal experience, including some experience in Chapter 13 bankruptcy matters, sufficient computer skills to be able to use the Trustee case management software, Proficiency in legal writing and analysis, familiarity with electronic case filing (ECF) and Pacer. Excellent organizational skills are needed. Ability to manage an extensive and busy calendar without issue. Candidates selected will be subject to background investigation. Neither interview nor relocation expenses will be authorized, paid or reimbursed by this office. This position wilt be open until it is filled.

Role Description:
